What is the Virtual Choir Recorder?

Virtual choirs can be a lot of fun. We know, we run them! But the one thing we can't do is the one thing we want to do.

Sing together!

Virtual Choir Recorder makes it possible to actually hear what the choir truly sounds like without the delays and distortions that comes with using Zoom or other videoconferencing software.

Our Virtual Choir Recorder gives you all the tools you need with just one app on your smartphone..

Continue the registration

You now need to choose whether you are a choir member or a choir director/owner

  • choose the "director" checkbox (assuming you are a director)
  • Enter your  email address (this is the email address that the recorded track links will be sent to)
  • Enter the name fo your choir
  • CHOIR CODE: This is a code that you (as director) chooses to enable you to send the correct backing tracks to your choir.
  • Once you have chosen your choir code, you simply give this code to all your members (and ONLY your members).
  • Now, when you upload a backing track, your members will automatically see this on their record page and be ready to record!

Using the App

Are you mixing the track yourself? Great! If not, we can do it for you. Instructions below.

When you have logged in, you will be presented with the main menu. The tab your members will use most is likely to be NEW RECORDING. But the one YOU are likely to use most is MANAGE BACKING TRACKS.

Here you will find OFFICIAL CHOIR TRACKS. Once clicked, you will find your self on the upload page. Simple click the 'plus' button at the bottom of the page to add tracks.

You can also add tracks via this website by logging in as a director

You MIGHT want to upload different backing tracks for the same song (for example song_tenor.mp3, song_alto.mp3 etc). In fact, we advise this. It will make it much easier for your choir member to sing the track correctly if they have a backing track playing of just their part.

You can add as many versions of the same song as you wish of course. You would just provide 3-4 separate links.

For actual recording (if you are going to record tracks yourself), please remember:

  • PLUG IN SOME HEADPHONES! This is essential in order to make it possible to mix your voice in the final track.
  • PRESS PLAY to rehearse for as much as you need. You will hear the track but not record.
  • When you are ready START RECORDING: You can keep trying the same track as many times as you want. Press SAVE RECORDING only when you are happy with your take.
  • Now go to MY RECORDINGS. Here you can upload your track. You are done!

The tracks that your choir members record will be emailed to you (via a download link). You can either mix all these tracks yourself on any DAW (Logic Audio, Cubase etc) OR you can have us mix it for you. Mixing is a time consuming task however and we have to charge for this. We charge £1.50 (GBP) per track mixed. So if your choir has 50 members, it will cost £75 to mix the track. Just email us at [email protected] to start this process.
